Hanif hits back at Fakhrul over budget remarks

Friday, 6 June 2014

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Friday criticised BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for calling ‘illegal and unethical’ the placing of the national budget for fiscal 2014-15 by the present government.
“BNP was born in an illegal way. As the acting secretary general of an illegal party, Mirza Fakhrul doesn’t have rights to tell someone (indicating the present government) ‘illegal’,” Hanif told reporters before joining a biennial conference of Mirpur Upazila of unit Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling party in Kushtia.
The remark came apparently in response to Mirza Fakhrul’s Thursday’s speech, “The current regime can in no way be called a legitimate government. The present parliament is illegal, too.  How come they place the national budget in parliament those who were not elected by people.”
Referring to Fakhrul’s speech delivered at a discussion organised by Jatiyatababdi Chhatra Dal at the Jatiya Press Club, Hanif said, “If Fakhrul has the minimum courage and basic principle, he should first propose abolishing illegal BNP,” according to UNB.
