Haphazard parking

Saturday, 21 June 2014

I was watching a picture on an online news portal about illegal parking which is one of the reasons for severe traffic gridlock in the city. No effective steps are being seen to be taken against this illegal parking menace. Even diplomatic zone like Gulshan is not spared from the illegal parking. Quite often we see the illegally parked vehicles are being towed but the situation is not improving. Our roads are not much wider and due to the random, haphazard parking on the busy road, it is becoming narrower and halting traffic movement and creating huge gridlock throughout the day and cause immense suffering for the commuters.
A few days back on a Friday, I went to New Market and found severe traffic jam there. Many private cars were parked on the road and traffic police were trying frantically to bring order and remove illegally parked cars. The shoppers were suffering due to unbearable heat and traffic jam. If the present situation continues, there will be serious traffic problem in the coming days as more shoppers will rush to shop during the month of Ramadan. I hope the authority will take tough measures to mitigate the situation so that during the time of Ramadan the sufferings of city dwellers are lessened.
