KHULNA, Apr 23: The production of Khulna Hard Board Mills (KHBM) has been suspended again due to shortage of working capital. The production was suspended for want of raw materials including furnace oil. However, the authorities said they are trying to run the mill within week. The production cost of KHBM has been increased about Tk. 2.2 million per month due to increasing the price of furnace oil. On the other hand, the mill was running somehow without any BMRE (Balancing, Modernizing, Rehabilitation and Expansion) during the last 46 years. The mill authority sent a proposal to the BCIC seeking Tk. 100 million for BMRE (Balancing, Modernising, Rehabilitation and Expansion) about one year ago but the concerned authority did not respond, the source said. The workers and employees of the mill are passing their life with hardship for not getting the arrear wages. Established in 1966 with an annual production capacity of 2.78 million square meters, the hardboard mill was shut down primarily because of a poor production capacity triggered by short supply of its raw material from the Sundarbans forest. The products of the KHBM also faced a tough competition in the market as both the quality and prices were comparatively higher than those of imported ones.
