Hartal passes off peacefully at Barkal

RANGAMATI, Mar 10: The first day of two-day dawn to dusk hartal called by Samo Odhikar Andolan (SOA), a platform for Bangali settlers, and its student front Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad (PBCP) today passed off peacefully at Barkal Upazila of the district.
Water ways communication of the upazila with district headquarters remained suspended during the day-long shutdown. All kinds of business establishments except restaurants and pharmacies at upazila headquarters remained closed.
Some pickets of SOA and BPCP obstructed few engine boats at Suvalong Bazar in the morning, however, they later released those after an hour, sources said.
Activists of both organisations brought out procession at upazila headquarters.
SOA and PBCP Tuesday called a two-day hartal at Barkal Upazila in protest against the killing of their activist by unknown criminals.
