Hartal passing peacefully in Rangpur

A half-day hartal (shutdown), enforced by Mahanagar Dokan Malik Samity, is passing peacefully in Rangpur city on Monday. The hartal was announced by the Samity last Friday, protesting the killing of a Jubo League leader in the city a few days ago. Motorised vehicles stayed off the road while most of the private establishments and businesses, including factories, supermarkets and shops, remained closed. No long-route buses left the northern-most divisional city. A large number of police personnel were deployed in the city to fend off any trouble, according to private TV channels.
