Hartal progressing peacefully in Lakshmipur

An eight-hour-long hartal (shutdown), called for Saturday by the local unit BNP protesting the detention of its Sadar upazila (east) unit organising secretary M Omar Faruk, has been progressing in Lakshmipur district without major untoward incidents. The shutdown will remain in force from 6am till 2pm. The shutdown call came in a press release signed by the district unit BNP vice-president Saidul Islam Bhuiyan on Friday noon, according to a news agency.
