Hartal underway in Satkhira

A daylong hartal, called for Tuesday by local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the killing of a Shibir leader in police firing while holding a secret meeting in Kamalnagar area on Sunday, is going on in Satkhira on Tuesday. However, almost there was no picketing by Jamaat-Shibir activists in Satkhira town or anywhere in the district. Vehicular movement on roads in the district town was less than normal in the morning and no long-route buses left Satkhira bus terminals since 6am. A large number of policemen remained deployed in the south-western district to fend off any trouble, according to a news agency.
