Hartals in 8 upazilas end peacefully

Separate hartals in three upazilas of Satkhira, two upazilas of Narayanganj and Chuadanga each and Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria enforced by 19-party alliance and its components protesting various irregularities during the 5th phase of upazila elections, passed off peacefully Tuesday, according to a news agency.
In Satkhira, local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami enforced a daylong hartal in Sadar, Tala and Debhata upazilas protesting various irregularities in the fifth phase upazila elections.
In Narayanganj, the dawn-to-dusk hartal in Rupganj and Araihazar upazila of the district failed to draw any response.
In Chuadanga, the BNP-led alliance enforced a half-day hartal in Sadar and Alamdanga upazilas protesting vote rigging during Monday’s upazila elections.
In Brahmanbaria, the half-day hartal in Kasba upazila of the district ended amid little response from people.
