The government has brought a major change in the country's two leading law enforcing agencies as it appointed director general (DG) of RAB Hasan Mahmud Khandaker as inspector general of police (IGP).
Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Shikder Monday made the disclosure while talking to reporters at the secretariat.
As per the top level shakeup in the police administration, the present IGP Nur Mohammad has been transferred to the Foreign Ministry for appointment as an ambassador.
Police's Deputy Inspector General of Rajshahi Range Mokhlesur Rahman has been appointed as DG of the elite force Rapid Action Battalion.
Mr Sarker added that a directive over the reshuffle would be issued soon.
Nur Mohammad, the 26th IGP of Bangladesh police, played the role of the country's police chief since January in 2007 while Hasan Mahmud Khandaker was the first DG of the elite force after it was introduced in 2004.
