Hasan Raja's home

Thursday, 16 December 2010

As one reaches Sunamgonj, a giant gate of Hasan Raja comes to sight on the entry-way to the town. Dewan Hasan Raja hails from Tegoria, a noted village of Sunamgonj district. A main gate at his original home where it is written as 'Hasan Rajar Bari' being encircled by a well-structured wall. This home stands on the bank of the river Surma.
Thereafter, the homestead which is seen now, is really not that of Hasan Raja. This was built by his next generation. Hasan Raja was not keen about buildings or a palace. That is why, He wrote - 'Ki ghor banymu ami sunner o majhar'. His building was made of mud. That was destroyed a long time back. There is a vacant homestead there now. Samarin Dewan, a great-grandson of Hasan Raja who lived in London for a long time, looks after this property. At present he works for preserving the memorial of Hasan Raja. Samarin Dewan has already built a museum.
Chair, table, dress, stick, cages, write-ups of songs, flower-vases, sword and wooden sandals which were used by Hasan Raja can now be seen in this museum. There is a cultural and literary research centre, besides the museum. This has been kept locked since its establishment. The belongings of Hasan Raja were collected by Samarin Dewan. Hasan Raja's graveyard is located near his homestead. This graveyard is now utterly neglected in the absence of proper supervision. This government should come forward to protect this monument.
