Hashem, his wife, 4 sons get bail in tax evasion case

Partex Group chairman MA Hashem, his wife Sultana Hashem, their four sons Aziz Al Kaisar Tito, Aziz Al Mahmood, Aziz Al Masud and Md Rubel Aziz were granted bail in a tax evasion case after they surrendered to court Wednesday, reports UNB.
But the court has ordered arrest of another son of Hashem for not appearing before it on summons.
All the accused except Shawkat Aziz surrendered to the Senior Special Judge`s Court of Mohammad Zahurul Haque in the morning and secured bail in the case filed by National Board of Revenue (NBR) on May 10 against eight people for evading Tk 536.4 million income tax.
The court on May 11 summoned former BNP lawmaker Hashem and Partext Group directors Sultana, their five sons, Kaisar, Mahmood, Masud, Rubel and Shawkat and another accused.
According to the case details, Hashem and others dodged taxes amounting to Tk 536.4 million during 2005-06 and 2008-09 fiscals against the income of Danish Condensed Milk Ltd of which Hashem is the Managing Director.
