Hasina accorded reception at UK Parliament

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended a reception at Westminister according to her by the pro-Bangladesh lobby group in the UK Parliament on Monday night. All Party Parliamentary Group Chairman of Keith Vaz joined the programme. Sheikh Hasina met several newly-elected British lawmakers who also attended reception along with 30 other MPs. Vaz, who has been a Labour party MP from Leicester East since 1987, has been the longest serving British lawmaker of Asian origin. Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow greeted the Bangladesh prime minister as she alighted from the car accompanied by Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and other members of her entourage. Three women Labour party lawmakers of Bangladesh origin – Rushana Ali, Tulip Siddiq and Rupa Huq – werer also present, according to a news agency.
