Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has hailed Ranil Wickremesinghe on his re-election as the Sri Lankan Prime Minister and wished to work with him in further strengthening bilateral ties. In a congratulatory message on Friday the Bangladesh PM extended her warm congratulations to Wickremesinghe. “Bangladesh profoundly values its friendly ties with Sri Lanka that are based on commonalities of history, culture and traditions. I wish to work closely with you in further strengthening our bilateral ties and promoting peace, progress and prosperity in our region and the world.”
“It gives me great pleasure to warmly congratulate you on your re-appointment as the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka following the victory of your alliance in the parliamentary election of 17 August 2015,” the PM said. Through this election, she said, the people of Sri Lanka have given him the mandate to carry forward the reforms that his government initiated after the historic political transition of Sri Lanka in January this year. “I am convinced that your distinguished political career and experience in leading the government will be of immense use in attaining your vision of creating a 'new country in 60 months' that would see accelerated economic growth in an atmosphere of good governance," Sheikh Hasina added. The Prime Minister extended a warm invitation to Wickremesinghe to visit Bangladesh at his convenience and wished him continued success in the high office as well as his good health, happiness and personal well-being. Wickremesinghe was sworn in today as the Sri Lanka's prime minister as his center-right United National Party (UNP) won Monday's general election, according to BSS.
