Hasina, Khaleda exchange Eid greetings with people

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Wednesday urged all to learn from the essence of sacrifice of the Eid-ul-Azha and give up their personal interests for the betterment of the common people, reports UNB.
"We have to learn from this religious festival how to sacrifice our small interests for the greater welfare of the people," she said.
She made the call while talking to reporters at the Eid reception on the city's Ganabhaban premises.
People from all walks of life thronged the spot in the morning and conveyed their Eid greetings to the PM.
Hasina also exchanged greetings with a number of disabled and crippled persons including children and women in particular and entertained them with sweets.
The PM also exchanged greetings with foreign diplomats and representatives of international agencies. She entertained the guests with sweets and fruits.
Hasina congratulated all including law enforcing agencies for ensuring the celebration of the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims in a peaceful manner.
Earlier, the PM Wednesday also sent improved diet for the freedom fighters wounded in the 1971 liberation war. PM's assistant personal secretaries Islam and Saifuzzaman Shikhor delivered the improved diet to the Freedom Fighters Rehabilitation Centre.
Hasina also conveyed her greetings to the Bangladeshi people living abroad.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia also exchanged greetings with cross section of people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha Wednesday.
She hosted the reception at the Ladies' Club in the city.
The Leader of the opposition in parliament first exchanged Eid greetings with the foreign diplomats and then with thousands of people of different professions and status including men, women, boys and girls and kids.
Leaders of BNP, its front and associate organizations and other political parties attended the function.
Later, Khaleda Zia visited the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman. She placed wreath at the mazar and offered fateha there.
