Hasina, Koirala discuss use of Nepal\\\'s hydroelectricity by BD

Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina discussed use of Nepal’s hydroelectricity by Bangladesh on the sidelines of the 69th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday evening. The discussion happened when Koirala met with Sheikh Hasina at the latter’s hotel suite in New York. During over 1-hour-long meeting, the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues relating to the bilateral interests. After exchanging pleasantries with Hasina, Koirala greeted the Bangladesh Prime Minister for her speech at the UN Roundtable on Climate Change. Koirala also invited Hasina to the next SAARC Summit to be held in Kathmandu in November. Then the two premiers discussed issues relating to interests of both countries including increasing regional connectivity and use of Nepal’s hydroelectricity by Bangladesh. After the meeting, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Huque briefed reporters. PM’s Press Secretary AKM Shamim Chowdhury was also present. The foreign secretary said Koirala again requested Hasina to establish a road connectivity between Nepal and Bangladesh through Fulbari and Banglabandha, according to a news agency.
