FE Report | Wednesday, 6 June 2018
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave for Canada on Friday to attend the 'leaders outreach session' of the G-7 Summit.
During her four-day visit, she will also have a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In the meeting, they will discuss issues relating to extradition of Noor Chowdhury, a convicted killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Rohingya crisis and promotion of bilateral trade.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said this on Tuesday while briefing reporters on the visit.
He said 12 heads of state or government will take part in the G-7 outreach session.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will highlight the achievements of Bangladesh in human development, socio-economic development, women's empowerment and the ways to address climate change during the outreach session, he said.
"This will brighten the image of the country," he added.
The prime minister is expected to return home on June 12.
The minister also responded to a query of the International Criminal Court regarding the alleged war crime committed by Myanmar security forces against the Rohingya.
The foreign minister said right now Bangladesh's priority is to ensure safe and dignified return of the Rohingya.
Responding to a question whether there is any possibility of inking any temporary agreement on the Teesta water sharing, he said he was not aware of any such development.
