Hasina likely to have meeting with Cameron during UK tour

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to have a meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron during her 3-day UK visit beginning on July 21. The Prime Minister will fly for the United Kingdom to attend the Girl Summit 2014 and the meeting is likely to be held on the sidelines of the Summit in which bilateral issues between the two countries may be discussed. A senior diplomat said they are expecting a meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister and with her British counterpart during the former’s coming UK tour. Asked whether it will be an ‘ice-breaking’ one if the meeting is held, the diplomat smiled refraining from making any comment. Prime Minister Hasina will be attending the summit, to be held in London July 22, at the invitation of British Prime Minister Cameron. The invitation is considered important as the UK and other Western countries were critical of the January 5 general election, which was boycotted by BNP and its allies. Earlier on June 5, British High Commissioner Robert Gibson at the DCAB (Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh) talks was asked whether the Bangladesh Prime Minister will be invited soon to visit the UK and replied, ‘No, not at this moment. May be (in future), but not at this moment.’ This visit will be the PM’s 4th foreign tour since taking office for a 2nd consecutive term, according to UNB.
