Hasina off to Malaysia

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning for an official visit to boost the crucial Bangladesh-Malaysia relations. High government officials accompanying the PM said Malaysia will sign 4 instruments during Sheikh Hasina’s 3-day visit. The PM is leading a 30-member delegation comprising the foreign minister, expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister, civil aviation and tourism minister, cultural affairs minister, and state minister for home. They said Bangladesh will stress manpower export and trade gap reduction during the PM’s tour. ‘Four instruments would be signed during her 3-day visit including agreements and MoUs,’ Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said on the eve of Sheikh Hasina’s departure. He stated that protocol Amending the MoU of 2012 between Malaysia and Bangladesh on the Employment of Workers’ was being seen as a major one, as it would allow Malaysia to recruit more Bangladeshis even outside its mainland. It is expected to allow the entry of at least 12,000 Bangladeshi workers to the Sarawak state once the protocol is signed, he added. A regular fight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the premier and her entourage, took off from Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport around 10:00am, according to a news agency.
