Hasina pays respect to dead AL leader at National Hospital

Saturday, 14 July 2007

Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina paid respect to late Moazzem Hossain, a member of the party's advisory council, at National Medical College Hospital in the city Friday, reports UNB.
Hossain (80), also former general secretary of Dhaka City AL, died Thursday night at the National Hospital, which was founded by him.
Earlier, the AL president faced some restriction to see late Hossain as the authorities did not send security protection car. She had to wait for an hour at Sudha Sadan - her residence in the city.
As she insisted on going to the hospital without security protection the authorities sent the protection car.
Hasina reached the hospital at about 11:35 am and stayed there for about 10 minutes. She placed wreath at his coffin.
"What country we are living in? Why I will not be allowed to see the late leader of my party? What situation is this?'', the AL chief told journalists at the hospital.
Meanwhile, AL Presidium Member Motia Chowdhury was again stopped and prevented from entering Sudha Sadan to meet Hasina.
Mentioning the IGP's remarks to the media that one or two persons, apart from relations, will be allowed to meet the AL chief, Motia said there is no truth in words and actions of the IGP as she was stopped outside Sudha Sadan. "We want to see true reflection of his words and deeds", she said.
Motia termed obstruction on movement of Sheikh Hasina 'unfortunate'.
