Tuesday, 16 December 2008

Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina Monday said her party, if elected to office, will have no laws that go against the Quran or Sunnah, report bdnews24.com and UNB.
She made the declaration at an election rally of Jahangir Kabir Nanak, the grand-alliance candidate for Dhaka-13 constituency.
Hasina also urged the non-Bengalis who were born here to accept Bangladesh, saying that if voted to power, she will resolve their problems.
She gave the assurance while addressing the election rally at Mohammadpur in the city, where a large number of stranded Pakistanis live at Geneva camp in sub-human condition.
"Those of you born in this country accept Bangladesh…If Awami League forms government, we will take steps for your jobs and welfare," Hasina told the rally.
Around 3,00,000 stranded Pakistanis, known as Biharis, have been languishing in some 66 camps across the country since the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971 with largest concentration at Mirpur and Mohammadpur in the capital.
Recently, the High Court in a verdict declared the stranded Pakistanis, who were born here after the 1971 Liberation War, as Bangladeshi citizen by birth and eligible to become voters.
Meanwhile, at another campaign rally at Karwan Bazar for Asaduzzaman Khan, the AL candidate for Dhaka-11, Hasina pledged to turn Dhaka into a modern city, if her party wins the Dec 29 election.
