Prime Minister-in-waiting Sheikh Hasina Tuesday expressed her readiness to work with the opposition in parliament to strengthen democracy and build a modern Bangladesh according to her commitment, reports UNB.
Hasina, who led her grand alliance in clinching a landslide victory in Monday's crucial national elections, made the remarks during a meeting with chiefs of election-observation missions from Commonwealth, UN, NDI and IRI at her Sudhasadan residence.
Briefing reporters, HT Imam, co-chair of AL election steering committee, said the mission chiefs would communicate Hasina's good intentions to the opposition.
The mission chiefs expressed satisfaction at the holding of free and fair elections Monday, after the lapse of two years under emergency.
He demanded immediate publication of the election results through gazette notification.
Imam said the upazila election would be held "at appropriate time", but they requested the Election Commission to defer the last date for filing nomination papers from tomorrow. "After upazila", he said "zila parishad elections will (also) be held."
Meanwhile, bdnews24.com adds, a press conference by Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina scheduled just hours after sweeping the election was deferred Tuesday for unavoidable reasons, said an aide, reports bdnews24.com.
"Owing to unavoidable circumstances the press conference has been re-scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday)," her Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters at around 4:45pm.
Sheikh Hasina was set to address the post-election press conference at the National Press Club.
