FE REPORT | Monday, 13 January 2020

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with the heads of Bangladesh missions in nine Middle Eastern countries today (Monday), foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Sunday.
The meeting will be held in Abu Dhabi during her three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the minister said while briefing reporters in the city on the PM's visit.
The prime minister left for Abu Dhabi on Sunday afternoon.
Asked about the PM's frequent visit to the UAE, Dr Momen said Bangladesh gives high importance to its ties with the UAE.
"We received a number of big investment proposals from the UAE during her previous visit there," he added.
During this visit, the prime minister will attend the 'Abu Dhabi Sustainable Week' programme and 'Zayed Sustainable Awards Ceremony' at the ICC Hall of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on Monday morning.
Around 40,000 people from around the world will take part in this programme and 70 people will be awarded for their contributions to ensuring climate sustainability, said Dr Momen.
Sheikh Hasina will also hold bilateral meetings with UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan on Tuesday.
She will return home on January 14 by a Bangladesh Biman flight.
Dr Momen said the UAE is recruiting Bangladeshis in some specific categories and it is expected that the job market in the UAE will open for all categories very soon.
He pointed out that the volume of remittance coming from abroad has started increasing after a brief period of stagnation.
"We are expecting to receive 18 billion US dollars in remittance this fiscal," he said, adding that the prime minister's initiative to provide 2.0 per cent cash incentive on remittance receipts helped increase the flow.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and Maritime Affairs Secretary Rear Admiral (Rtd) Khorshed Alam were present at the press briefing.
