FE Report
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, who is now in a make-shift sub-jail, has requested the central bank governor to provide the statement of her bank accounts.
"We have received a letter from Sheikh Hasina, through the home ministry, requesting to provide a statement of her bank accounts," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the FE Thursday.
He also said the central bank will act in accordance with the existing rules and regulations.
The former prime minister wrote the letter against the backdrop of a notice issued by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) asking to submit her wealth statement.
On July 17 last, the ACC issued notices on the two former Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia asking them to submit their wealth statements to it.
They will have to submit their wealth statements under section 26 (1) of the ACC Act, 2004 and section 17 of ACC Rules, 2007.
Under the provisions of the law, physical presence is not mandatory for submitting the statements. They can submit their respective statements through representatives.
Sources said the Awami League president, in her own hand written letter, requested to provide detail information about bank accounts mentioning the latest balance along with opening figures of each account.
Earlier, the central bank sent the information about the bank accounts and the financial statements of two former Prime Minister -Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina to the National Coordination Committee on Serious Crime.
Meanwhile, the ACC has given Awami League president Sheikh Hasina seven more days to submit her wealth statement to the commission.
ACC Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman Thursday said the time has been granted upon a prayer of Sheikh Hasina requesting the commission to extend the usual seven-day timelimit as per ACC rules.
