Hasina visits Banani Graveyard

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Banani Graveyard in the city at 7:30am on Friday to pay tributes to her family members who were martyred on August 15, 1975, and buried there. She laid wreaths first as the prime minister and later as the president of Awami League and sprayed petals on the graves of her near and dear ones as well as Bangabandhu’s Military Secretary Colonel Jamil who were also killed on the black night of 15th August. Mother of the prime minister Fazilatunnesa Mujib, her brothers Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell and other martyrs were buried at Banani. She stood there for sometimes and was seen to have broken with tears in the eyes. On August 15, 1975, Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated by a group of derailed army officers. Bangabandhu was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Tungipara in Gopalganj district but the other martyrs of his family, his relatives and the members of his security team were buried at Banani Graveyard, according to a news agency.
