Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has warned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists of stern action, even five years in jail, if found involved in creating chaos on campuses.
The Prime Minister gave the warning when a 35-member BCL team went to her official residence to greet her on the occasion of the Bangla New Year Tuesday.
"No one will be condoned if found involved in making trouble at educational institutions, be he a BCL leader or whoever else. The punishment will be five-year imprisonment if necessary", BCL Joint Secretary Iqbal Mahmud Bablu told reporters quoting their former organisational leader Sheikh Hasina.
BCL President Mahmud Hasan Ripon and General Secretary Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton led the BCL team. Dhaka University (DU) unit BCL President Sohel Rana Tipu and General Secretary Sajjad Shakib Badsha also accompanied the team.
Earlier, BCL Organising Secretary Ashrafur Rahman and International Affairs Secretary Sohel Rana Mithu were arrested on April 12 on charges of destabilising the academic atmosphere on the DU campus.
