Hasina’s 33rd Homecoming Day Saturday

Friday, 16 May 2014

The ruling Awami League and its associate bodies and organisations will observe Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 33rd Homecoming Day on Saturday. On this day in 1981, Hasina, who was newly elected as AL president, returned home from India after nearly six years in exile following the assassination of the country’s founding president, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family members by a group of disgruntled army officers on August 15, 1975. However, both the daughters of Bangabandhu -- Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana -- survived as they were in Germany at that time. Dhaka City Awami League will organise a discussion at the Engineers Institute auditorium 3:30 pm on Saturday marking Sheikh Hasina’s Homecoming Day, according to UNB.
