Hasnabad power grid substation catches fire

Tuesday, 22 April 2014

A fire at Hasnabad Power Grid-Substation on Tuesday caused a shutdown disrupting power supply in the south western part of the capital city. Officials at state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) said the fire was brought under control in an hour. Hasnabad power grid substation has a key role in power supply in south west Dhaka, particularly the old part of the city. It is run by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB). "Power supply through some transmission lines was temporarily disrupted, but it was restored shortly", said a senior PDB official speaking on condition of anonymity. PGCB officials were not available to comment on the fire, according to a news agency.
