Hassle-free travel during Eid vacation

According to media reports, travellers have to encounter hassles and troubles starting from purchasing tickets to the actual journey during the Eid season every year. Some of the common problems that travellers face every year while travelling immediately before and after Eid on public transports, such as buses, trains and launches, include insufficient number of tickets, 'black marketing' of tickets, their price hike, overcrowded and overloaded public transports, accidents etc. Then there is the trying traffic congestion on the road, for which sometimes travellers have to celebrate Eid in mid-journey. Gridlock on roads results in uncomfortable journeys.
This year the authorities concerned have informed that they have taken several steps to ensure that travellers enjoy a hassle-free journey on the occasion of Eid. The authorities have also informed that they have formed several teams to monitor if any undesirable incidents are occurring. Forming teams to monitor unwarranted happenings is a positive measure but it may not prove sufficient enough in assessing the ground reality, as it excludes public participation, which is an important step in the planning process.
To determine whether the steps that have been taken are enough to ensure a hassle-free journey, it is important to conduct a survey on travellers at the bus ticket counters, terminals and railway stations. A survey also needs to be conducted inside the mass transports to enquire about the travellers' experiences, feedback and suggestions.
This will help the authorities concerned assess more effectively whether the steps taken were sufficient or whether additional steps need to be taken in the future to provide a safe, smooth and comfortable journey.
