Hatirjheel lake
Monday, 25 May 2015
Recent media reports depicted Hatirjheel lake as a huge open, dirty and filthy sewage pit or a sewage pond. The lake should be enclosed all round with closely-knit barbed wire fencing, protected by a compacted and grassed earthen wall all round it, so that shallow drains do not drain water into this lake. A locked and guarded main gate may be provided when it is later fully developed.
Money spent on this work will pay dividends in terms of a far better and cleaner environment of a lake or 'jheel' that it was meant to be. But unfortunately it has been totally ignored over the years. If such a project is started and sustained in the long run, jointly financed by the government and the municipality, then it could well be transformed into a beautiful lake in the days to come. I am sure every one will like that it becomes a "Sundar jheel" (meaning a beautiful lake) rather than what it is now.
Some magnanimous owners of the various factories in the area may kindly set the ball rolling and donate towards such a fund and develop this valuable potential greenery close to our metropolis.
