Having a canteen for Titumir College

Sunday, 14 November 2021

The Government Titumir College (TGTC), affiliated with the University of Dhaka, is one of largest colleges in the country with more than 60,000 students. The college is frequented every day by thousands of students. However, it is unfortunate that there is no canteen or cafeteria on the college campus. Students are forced to eat unhygienic street food, which is harmful for their health. There are no good, hygienic and convenient restaurants nearby. As the DU authorities have made it compulsory for the students to attend at least 75 per cent of the classes, we have to stay a long time on the campus. And, whether it is breakfast or lunch, we have to rely on the cheap restaurants and street food vendors. So, students are getting unwell by consuming these unhealthy foods.
Unlike at TGTC, almost every college in Bangladesh has its own canteens. It looks like the college administration is not serious about establishing a canteen on the campus. The administration on several occasions promised thatit would solve this problem. But we are yet to get any results. So, we urge the college authorities to take this matter seriously, and set up a canteen on the campus as soon as possible.
