HC accepts Nizami petition

The High Court has accepted for hearing the petitions submitted by four death row convicts including Jamaat leader Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami challenging their conviction in the Chittagong arms haul cases. The three other convicts are former director of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Major General (Retd) Rezzaqul Haidar Chowdhury, former director general of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Brigadier General (Retd) Abdur Rahim and former NSI deputy director Major (Retd) Liakat Hossain. An HC bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Thakur accepted the appeals after the convicts’ lawyer submitted the petition before the bench for hearing. However, no date was fixed for hearing the appeal. The four moved the petitions in February this year, according to a news agency.
