HC asks EC to register AB Party
FE REPORT | Tuesday, 20 August 2024
The High Court (HC) on Monday asked the Election Commission (EC) to register the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) as a political party without any delay.
The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque issued the order after hearing a writ petition filed by the AB Party.
It also declared absolute a rule that sought an explanation as to why the AB Party should not be given registration as a political party and as to why the EC's decision not to give registration to the AB Party should not be declared illegal.
On July 24, the EC decided not to give registration to the AB Party.
Challenging the EC's decision, convener of the party AFM Solaiman Chowdhury filed the writ with the HC on August 23 last year.
Following the petition, an HC bench issued the rule on August 31 last year.
Tajul Islam (party's joint convener) moved for the petitioner during the hearing.
