Death threat to PM

HC asks govt to hold trial of all cases against Chand in one court

FE REPORT | Monday, 17 July 2023

The High Court on Sunday directed the government to consolidate all the cases filed against Rajshahi district BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand, on charge of making threat to the life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for holding their trials before a court in Rajshahi.
The HC bench of Justice K M Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Chand's daughter Shireen Akhter challenging the filing and initiation of multiple cases against him in connection with a single issue.
It also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain as to why filing multiple cases against Chand over his speech for which the cases were filed should not be declared illegal and unconstitutional.
Petitioner's lawyer Kayser Kamal said the court also asked the respondents not to take him on remand anymore regarding the issue.
