HC bail to Pinak-6 owner stayed

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court stayed on Thursday the High Court (HC) order granting bail to owner of Pinak-6 launch Abu Bakkar Siddique for two weeks in a case filed in connection with the launch capsize that left many dead, reports UNB.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by the government seeking a stay on the HC order.
Emerging from the court, Deputy Attorney General Khandaker Muhammad Diliruzzaman told the journalists that launch owner Abu Bakkar Siddique would not be released from the jail now due to the stay order.
Earlier, on March, the HC granted six months' interim bail to Abu Bakkar Siddique in the case.
On August 14, 2014, a Munshiganj judicial magistrate court sent owner of the sunken launch to jail.
The overloaded launch with over 250 passengers on board from Kawrakandi sank in the Padma River, 800 yards off Mawaghat (jetty), on August 4 last year due to strong currents while it was heading towards the jetty.
Forty-eight bodies were recovered following the tragic launch capsize while its 62 passengers remained missing.
