HC bans use of date-expired stents in local hospitals
Friday, 30 January 2015
On its own motion, the High Court imposed a ban Thursday on all specialized hospitals, including the National Heart Foundation, implanting cardiac patients with date-expired 'rings', as part of the process known as stenting. Passing the interim order after taking into cognisance a report broadcast on Channel 24 that alleged the use of date-expired rings being inserted at danger to patients, an HC division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ATM Saifur Rafman asked the government to form a three-member body headed by the Director General of National Heart Foundation to further probe the matter. It has been asked to report in 30 days. — UNB
