HC bench refuses to hear Sagar-Runi case status

A High Court (HC) bench Wednesday refused to hear the progress report on journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case from its investigation officer as it is the matter of the trial court, reports UNB.
The HC joint bench comprising Justice Shawkat Hossain and Justice Mostafa Jaman Islam denied holding any hearing on the bail petition submitted by the three accused in the case for the same reason.
Earlier on February 18, a division bench of the High Court summoned the investigation officer (IO) of journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case to appear before it on March 5 with an update of the case.
The HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order while hearing the bail pleas of Bakul Mia, Rafiqul Islam and Kamrul Hasan, the three detained accused in the case.
As Justice M Enayetur Rahim was appointed chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on February 23, the bail petition was sent to the bench of Justice Shawkat Hossain and Justice Mostafa Jaman Islam for hearing.
SM Masud Hossain, a defence counsel, said now they will submit a petition to the Chief Justice for holding the hearing in another bench.
