HC dismisses writ petitions over a dropout HC judge

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

The High Court summarily dismissed Wednesday the two writ petitions over regularisation of the judicial service of its dropout additional judge ABM Altaf Hossain, despite recommendation of the Chief Justice as claimed by the petitioners, according to a news agency.
After hearing from both sides, a reconstituted vacation division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order.
The grounds for dismissing the writ petitions were not immediately available.
The two writ petitions, one filed by the aggrieved dropout additional judge while another by Idrisur Rahman, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, in the form of public interest litigation (PIL).
Earlier, on August 14, the admissibility of the writ petitions faced a deadlock as one of the judges of the High Court division bench felt embarrassed before passing order although exhausting hearings.
On June 13 in 2012, six persons, including writ petitioner advocate ABM Altaf Hossain, were appointed as additional judges of the High Court for a period of two years.
The President gave the appointments in consultation with the Chief Justice.
On June 9 this year, the judicial service of the five additional judges were regularised sans ABM Altaf Hossain.
