Monday, 27 October 2008

A Dhaka court has deferred testimony in a case filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others to Nov 4 on a stay order of the High Court (HC), reports bdnews24.com.
Special Sessions Judge Md Ashraf Hossain gave the order Sunday and ordered defence counsels to submit a copy of the HC stay order the same day.
Hasina's lawyer advocate Sahara Khatun was present on her behalf while co-accused Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim was absent because of illness.
The HC vacation bench of justices Mirza Hossain Haider and Mamnun Rahman stayed the case proceedings on Sept 16 and granted Hasina and Selim bail for three months.
Businessman Azam J Chowdhury filed the case with Gulshan Police Station accusing Hasina and her cousin of extorting some Tk 30 million (3.0 crore).
A chargesheet was later submitted in which Hasina's sister Sheikh Rehana was also named.
