HC issues contempt rule against CEC, 4 others

The High Court (HC) Tuesday issued a contempt rule on the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and four others asking to show cause in one week why steps will not be taken against them for ignoring its orders, reports BSS. A two-member bench comprising Justice M Ashfaqul Islam and Justice M Muazzem Hossain issued the rule on hearing a petition filed by a voter of Lesergonj union parisad under Harirampur Upazila of Manikgonj district. The petitioner alleged that the Election Commission (EC) did not comply with the August 2 court orders to dispose of the allegation of non-inclusion of the names of the persons of eight mouza, in the electoral roll. One Muazzem Hossain of Lesergonj village filed the petition. The remaining persons who were also asked to explain for non-complying with court directive are EC Secretary Dr M Sadek, Senior Assistant Secretary Abdul Baten, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Apurba Kumar Mondal and Upazila Youth Development Officer Mazarul Haque.
