HC issues rule on ninth wage board for newsmen
Tuesday, 3 July 2018
The High Court has issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why formation of the ninth wage board by the Information Secretary for journalists and staff of newspapers and news agencies would not be declared illegal, reports UNB.
An HC bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal came up with the rule on Sunday after hearing on a writ petition filed by Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB).
Secretaries to the Ministry of Information, and Ministry of Labour and Employment and wage board chairman Nizamul Haque Nasim have been asked to respond to the rule within two weeks.
The writ, filed last month, said the information ministry formed the 9th wage board illegally as it was supposed to be done by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The court also rejected a plea of the petitioner seeking stay on the activities of the wage board.
Advocate Yusuf Ali stood for the petitioner.
