HC jails ex-Gazipur DC for contempt

The High Court (HC) on Thursday sentenced Syed Mizanur Rahman, former deputy commissioner (DC) of Gazipur, to one month’s imprisonment for contempt-of-court charges. An HC division bench comprising Justice Sharif Uddin Chaklader and Justice ATM Saifur Rahman delivered the judgment as it found the contemnor guilty of flouting its order evicting 40 families living in the estate of Bhawal Raj Court of Wards, Gazipur. Convict Syed Mizanur Rahman, now functioning as director (administration) at Public Administration Training Centre, Savar, may lose his job following the HC conviction and sentence, according to lawyers, a news agency report said.
