HC judge's sickness halts writ hearing

Hearing on the writ petition that sought directives for not using live rounds on the protesters along with immediate release of the six coordinators of the quota reform movement could not be held in the High Court (HC) on Wednesday.
The HC bench, headed by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, could not sit for its proceedings, as the other judge of the bench, Justice S M Masud Hossain Dolon, went on two days leave due to sickness.
The HC bench was due to hold hearing on the petition for the third consecutive day and pass order on it.
During the hearing on Tuesday, an additional attorney general informed the court that Attorney General A M Amin Uddin, who was abroad on that day, would take part in the hearing to represent the state. Then the court adjourned the hearing until Wednesday.
The writ petitioners' lawyers expressed hope that the court would pass order on the matter on Wednesday after hearing the state side. However, they were disappointed, as the hearing did not take place.
Two Supreme Court lawyers, Manzur-Al-Matin and Aynunnahar Siddiqua, filed the writ petition with the HC on Monday. They sought its directives upon the government not to use live rounds on the protesters demonstrating in different parts of the country as well as immediate release of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement.
After holding hearing on the petition on Monday and Tuesday, the court adjourned it until Wednesday.
