HC refuses to hear petitions of Kazi Zafar, MK Alamgir
Friday, 12 December 2008
The High Court (HC) apparently endorsed Election Commission (EC) decisions scrapping the nomination papers of Jatiya Party (JP) presidium member Kazi Zafar Ahmed and Awami League (AL) presidium member Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir for the upcoming parliamentary elections as it Thursday declined to hear their separate petitions. A vacation bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, however, asked the two heavyweights to move their petitions in a regular bench on December 14, when the court reopens after the vacation. The counsel for the petitioners moved separate writ petitions against the EC orders that had upheld the decisions of the Returning Officers canceling their nominations on various grounds, including defaulting on payment of bank loans. —UNB
