HC rejects writ against EC's cancellation of candidacy

The High Court (HC) on Thursday rejected a writ petition filed by Awami League candidate Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury from Chattogram-16 constituency for the January 07 general election, challenging the decision of the Election Commission (EC) about the cancellation of his candidature on the voting day.
An HC bench comprising Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman and Justice Md Bashir Ullah passed the order after hearing the writ petition.
Barrister Khan Mohammad Shameem Aziz appeared in the hearing for the EC, while lawyer Asma Jalil stood for Mostafizur Rahman.
The EC cancelled the candidacy of the ruling Awami League candidate as he threatened law enforcers.
The election in the (Banshkhali) constituency was held on January 07 amid a poll contest among other candidates.
