HC rejects writ seeking ban on AL
FE REPORT | Monday, 2 September 2024
The High Court (HC) on Sunday summarily rejected a writ petition that sought its directives to ban Awami League (AL) as a political party and cancellation of its Election Commission (EC) registration for indiscriminate killing of students during the Anti Discrimination Student Movement this year.
The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed the order after hearing the writ petition.
Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, executive director of Sarda Society, a rights organisation, filed the petition on August 19 this year as a public interest litigation.
The petitioner also prayed to the High Court to pass order to change the names of organisations, which are named after Sheikh Hasina.
