Monday, 11 October 2010

The High Court (HC) has relieved Election Commi-ssioner Md Sohul Hossain of court contempt charges, reports bdnews24.com.
The bench of justices AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain gave the order Sunday.
Earlier on October 7 the bench relieved him of court appearance.
Awami League (AL) MP Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir filed the contempt of court petition against Sohul on September 28.
Based on Alamgir's petition, the court summoned the election commissioner on October 7 to answer why punitive actions would not be taken against him for defaming the court.
On September 26, Sohul said: "Our decision to publish the gazette was right and it corresponds with the court (Supreme Court) order. We will confront the issue legally, as the HC has stayed effectiveness of this gazette."
Sohul also said the commission would wait until it gets the certified copy of the verdict and then 'answer the rule'.
