HC rule to monitor hospitals, diagnostic centres

Wednesday, 16 April 2014

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why it should not be directed to set up a high-powered cell to monitor government and private hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and diagnostic centres. Following a writ petition filed in the form of public interest litigation, an HC bench comprising Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarker came up with the rule. The rule also sought explanations as to why directives should not be given to ensure free treatment for the poor at government and private hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and diagnostic centres as well as to shut down all illegal private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres. Supreme Court lawyer JR Khan filed the writ with the High Court on March 19 seeking its directives to ensure free healthcare services for the poor people, according to a news agency.
