HC set to deliver verdict on Jan 23

The High Court (HC) has fixed January 23 for delivering its verdict on the death references and appeals in sensational Jahangirnagar University (JU) student Jubair Ahmed murder case in 2012, report agencies.
An HC bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam fixed the date on Tuesday after concluding the hearing.
Earlier, the HC started the hearing on January 2.
Jubair Ahmed (23), an honours final year student of English department at Jahangirnagar University, was abducted and tortured on the campus by allegedly some activities of Bangladesh on January 8. He succumbed to his injuries in a Dhaka hospital on the following day.
Following the killing, protests by students and teachers led to the resignation of the then vice-chancellor Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir.
On February 8, 2015, a Dhaka court sentenced five people to death and six others to life imprisonment for the killing.
