HC slaps injunction on earth-filling in project site

The High Court on Sunday issued an injunction on the earth-filling in 2,500 bigha land at the project site of the Purbachal Marine City in Daudpur union of Rupganj upazila under Narayanganj district for three months.
The deputy commissioner of Narayanganj, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Rupganj, AC land and sub-registrar have been asked to comply with the injunction order.
The court also asked the Narayanganj DC and the deputy director of the District Social Service Office to conduct an investigation into the allegation of grabbing arable land, water bodies, homesteads and forests by the Purbachal Marine City authorities and to submit a report to the court within 60 days.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order after hearing a writ petition.
The court also issued a rule on the bodies concerned of the government to explain in four weeks as to why the inaction of the respondents in stopping illegal earth-filling by the authorities through grabbing arable land, water bodies, homesteads and forests in the project area of the Purbachal Marine City should not be declared illegal.
It also wanted to know in the rule as to why the respondents should not be directed to recover the arable land, water bodies, homesteads and forests already grabbed by the project authorities.
