Thursday, 4 October 2007

The High Court (HC) Wednesday stayed the proceedings of a graft case against detained Beximco Group vice-chairman Salman F Rahman. Passing the interim order upon a petition, a division bench, comprising Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, issued a rule upon the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) to explain why initiation of the case should not declared to have been made without lawful authority. "The rule is made returnable in six weeks," said the court order. The other accused in the case are Salman's brother and chairman of Beximco Group Sohel F Rahman, former managing director of IFIC Bank Ataul Haque, ex-manager of IFIC Bank's Motijheel branch Asab-ud-Doula, and directors of Beximco Holdings Iqbal Ahmed and MA Qashem. Barrister Rafique-ul Huq appeared for Salman. — UNB
